MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF OF AIR STAFF

AT the war's end, the R.A.A.F. looks back on six years of tremendous effort and gallant service. The obstacles overcome and the brilliant record established in achieving final victory stand not only as a monument to the loyalty and support given by all ranks of the R.A.A.F., but to the splendid cooperation and understanding built up between men and women of the Army and the Navy, alongside whom we are -proud to have served. To all who worked so hard to achieve this victory, I give my grateful thanks.

The stories in "Victory Roll" tell of some of the deeds performed in this final and victorious year. They add to a long tradition of gallant service and sacrifice, and will serve as an eternal inspiration in the task of building a new world in which the spirit of the Four Freedoms must predominate.

In making final victory possible, we lost many comrades, to whom this book, together with those which preceded it, becomes a permanent memorial.

Air Vice-Marshal, Chief of Air Staff.
