Here stand 5 monoliths with part of the history written in Turkish. Below each one is an English translation. The 5 monoliths have been described as the 5 fingers of a hand reaching towards heaven. The translations are reproduced verbatim.
19th Infantry division Commander, Staff Lt. Col. Mustafa Kemal (Attaturk) when learned the enemy landing on 25 April 1915 with his initiative has moved 57th infantry regiment to the area, and at the meantime with a bayonet assault carried out by a few soldiers whose ammunition was finished and have been covering the shoreline but was able to gain some time to position the regiment thus halted the enemy at Conkbayiri.
Mustafa Kemal "Ataturk" on the morning of 25 April 1915, when starting the assault with the 57th division against the enemy at Conkbayiri has given the following order: "I'm not ordering you to assault but ordering you to die, during the time of our death new replacement forces could arrive, and some other commander may be in charge". With such enthusiasm the Mehmetok's sprang into assault under the concentrated and effective firings of the fleet, have pushed back the enemy until Cesarattepe.
The enemy forces at Ariburnu with the reinforcement received have started the assault more powerfully towards Conkbayin on 6 August 1915. at the end of the bloody war which lasted without interruption for two days and nights both sides have suffered heavy casualties, but the Turkish forces were successful to check the enemy by 25 meters off to Conkbayiri line at the evening of 9 August 1915.
In the morning of 10th August 1915 the Turkish counter attack has started by bayonets as the trenches were very close. The theater of war has become hellish by the concentrated enemy firings, the life of Mustafa Kemal, the Group Commander of Anafartalar who did not leave the observation post for a single moment, was saved by his pocket watch which has been pierced by a shrapnel piece, and the enemy was pushed back until Agidere as the result of the assult.
The continous enemy assaults with the aim to secure the most important region of the Gelibolu Peninsular and the Conkbayiri Summit. thus to halve the the Turkish forces to occupy the Straights of Dardanelles (Canakkale) have failed as a result of the defense actions carried out by the brave Turkish Soldiers courage and enthusiasm. At the wars in this region the Turkish Army had 9,200 martyrs. The enemy loss was 12,000.
