Cemeteries & Memorials at
Suvla
|
| Lala
Baba Cemetery (147 identified, 53 unidentified, 16 special
memorials). Lala Baba is a low hill between Salt
Lake and the southern side of Suvla Bay. It was stormed by 2 Yorkshire
Regiments on the morning of 7th August. The cemetery was created after
the Armistice from smaller burial grounds and single burials in the
area. |
| Azmak
Cemetery (334 identified, 684 unidentified, 56 special memorials).
Created after the Armistice by combining local burials, battlefield
burials and small local cemeteries. These deaths were a result of
attempts to take Kiretch Tepe Ridge to the north of Suvla Bay and high
ground to the east. 114 of the unknowns were members of the Sandringham
Battalion of the Norfolk Regiment who had previously worked on the Royal
Estate at Sandringham. They died on 12 August 1915. |

10 Cemetery (493 identified, 150 unidentified, 56 special memorials).
Created after the Armistice by combining local burials, battlefield
burials and small local cemeteries. These deaths were a result of
attempts to take Kiretch Tepe Ridge to the north of Suvla Bay and high
ground to the east. |
