To read this makes you wonder why the history books don't pay more attention to the wonderful "Charge at Gaba Tepe near Suvla Bay". Perhaps the fact that it didn't happen has something to do with it.

After all Gaba Tepe (Kaba Tepe) was where the Anzac landing was to take place, over a mile south of Anzac Cove.

Hey, Anzac Cove was not at Suvla Bay.

You don't climb gullies.

Other than that the story is well......

...propaganda.

No matter how clever the strategy and foresight even Australians cannot win battles if they are not there.

They were NOT at Chocolate Hill.

It was part of the Suvla Campaign which was 95% British with some Indian troops.

This is another case of "not there".

The Anzacs did not ever set foot on the Anafarta Ridge.

The soldiers caught in the flames and killed were British, not Turkish and not Australian.

This is a wonderful story. Pity it's not true. The Anzacs were SUPPOSED to be landed at Gabe Tepe but in fact they were landed over a mile north at Ari Burnu.

While it is true that the first ashore were Queenslanders it is a bit of a stretch to call it "one of the most marvellous exploits in history".
