The
Truth |
 |
 |
The
unspoken moral to this story is "See, the Turk will even send his
old grandfather out to fight.
He is not a decent enemy but the
"strapping young Australian" does the "right thing"
and captures him and carries his weapon for him. Bravo. |
 |
 |
Here
we have a "burly Australian" smashing up a Turk with only his
fists in the fight for Lone Pine Hill.
Thank goodness the Aussies had "superb
heroism" and "bore the brunt heroically".
|
 |
 |
The
streams of Gallipoli become "rushing rivers".
Excuse me? Rushing rivers? I don't
think so.
But never mind, "nothing
daunts the hearts of our Australian Contingents".

 |
An
incident slightly resembling this actually happened.
It was at the charge at the Nek. That
fateful and stupid waste of men for no real purpose.
However the card gives the false
impression that the boys were just out for a bit of a lark.

 |
If
you believe this card the NZers prefer to use their rifles as clubs rather
than in the designed way, and they like hand to hand fighting.
Fortunately they are "splendid
troops" making a "fearful onslaught": that is why they were able to take Chunuk Bair.
