the British High Command that Turkey would fold under an invasion that
they over-printed special British 10 shilling notes in Arabic so the
troops would have spending money when they reached Constantinople.
This particular one was signed by 2nd
Lieutenant A E Richards of A Company 21st Battalion AIF and was marked
Xmas 1915.
It was also marked "Johnson's
Jolly, Anzac".
He posted it home as a souvenir as by
Christmas time it was obvious to all that the planned invasion and
occupation was a failure.
