outbreak of WWI to expand the professional army that was rapidly shrinking in
size due to casualties in France and Belgium and that was not enough to
fight the war anyway. |

| The
Gloucestershire Regiment have the unusual distinction of wearing a
second 'back' badge on the rear of their head-dress.
This stems from the
Battle of Alexandria on March 21st 1801, when the 28th, 42nd and 58th
Regiments beat off a French attack by turning back to back with the
front rank.
Badges available in either Brass or White metal.
