WORLD'S OLDEST WAR VETERAN; HÜSEYİN KAÇMAZ He fought in the Balkan and Canakkale (Gallipoli) wars. He became veteran by wounding in Conkbayiri Fight (Chunuk Bair) on 10 August 1915. He showed heroism at Dumlupınar pitched battle (in the Turkish War of Independence) and he got awarded the İstiklal Medal in 1922. He died in Zonguldak Ereğli Kestaneci village, which is his birth place, on 10 September 1994. He was 110 years old when he died. He is telling about war days to his grand daughter sweedy Eylül at the Opening Ceremony of 57. Regiment Memorial in 1993. We wish gratitude and mercy to Hero Veteran. Peace to his memory. |
