Artist Korkut Uluğ. Images supplied by MURAT BAL of Turkey

Hurrah Australia ! (1) Allah ! Allah! Allah ! (1)

Mehmet and Johnny Mehmet.

This title refers to "Mehmet" the slang name for Turkish soldiers and "Johnny Mehmet" the name the Turks sometimes called Australians, after the war.

Atatürk made reference to these two names in his famous speech to the mothers of Anzacs who had been killed at Gallipoli.

Last picture before martyrdom.

A group of Turkish soldiers just before the battle. Note the varied ages. The Turks rallied to their colours to protect their homeland in a way they had never done for wars outside Turkey.

Time for Martyrdom.

A wounded Turkish soldier in his death throes.

Ridges of Gallipoli

A Turkish soldier attacking with the bayonet.

Anzacs approach the Gallipoli Peninsular.

Kanlisirt-Lone Pine

The Turks war time name for Lone Pine was Kanlisirt which translates to Blood Ridge.

Conkbayiri - Chunuk Bair

The feature the Anzacs referred to as Chunuk Bair is called Conkbayiri, by the Turks.

The battle for Chunuk Bair was confused, at close quarters and vicious. This painting tries to reflect that.
