Click to enlarge 1st (Canterbury) Regiment 
  • Formed 17 March 1911. Absorbed the 2nd (South Canterbury) Regiment in 1921 to become the Canterbury Regiment. In 1964 it amalgamated with the Nelson, Marlborough & West Coast Regiment to become the 2nd Battalion Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment.

  • In WW1 it saw action in Egypt, Gallipoli and France. In WW2 supplied Companies to the 20th, 23rd, 26th, 30th and 37th Battalions.

2nd (South Canterbury) Regiment. Raised 17 March 1911.

  • Served at Gallipoli, France & Egypt as part of Canterbury Regiment. Absorbed into that Regiment in the reorganisation of 1921.

Click to enlarge 3rd (Auckland) Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly's Own). 
  • Formed 17 March 1911. Amalgamated with the Northland Regiment in 1964 to become the 3rd Battalion Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment.
  • Served in WW1 at Gallipoli, France & Egypt as part of Auckland Regiment. In WW2 it provided Companies to 21st, 24th & 29th Battalions
Click to enlarge 4th (Otago Rifles) Regiment
  • Part of the Otago Regiment and saw service in Egypt, Gallipoli & France. The reorganisation of 1921 saw it become the Otago Regiment after amalgamating with 10th (North Otago) Regiment.
  • WW2 saw it supplying Companies to 20th, 23rd, 26th, 30th & 37th Battalions.
  • In 1948 it amalgamated with the Southland Regiment to become the Otago & Southland Regiment which went on to become the 4th Battalion RNZIR in 1964.
Click to enlarge 5th (Wellington Rifles) Regiment was raised on March 1911
  • Formed part of the Samoan Advance Force in 1914. Later served as part of 1 & 2 battalions of the NZ Rifle Brigade. Saw action in France.
  • In WW2 it supplied Companies to 19th, 22nd, 25th & 36th Battalions.
  • Amalgamated with the Hawke's Bay Regiment in 1964 and became 7th Battalion of RNZIR.

  • Part of the Auckland Regiment and saw service at Gallipoli and France.
  • During WW2 provided Companies to 18th, 21st & 29th Battalions of 2NZEF.
  • Became 6th Battalion of RNZIR in 1964.
Click to enlarge 7th (Wellington West Coast) Regiment  was raised 17 March 1911.
  • As part of Wellington Regiment served in Egypt, Gallipoli & France.
  • Supplied 2 NZEF with Companies for 19th, 22nd, 25th & 36th Battalions.
  • After WW2 it amalgamated with the Taranaki Regiment and became the Wellington West Coast & Taranaki Regiment. In turn this became the 5th Battalion RNZIR, (1964).

8th (Southland Rifles) Regiment  was raised 17 March 1911.

  • This Unit formed 17 March 1911. It saw action at Gallipoli and in France and Egypt as part of Otago Regiment. 

  • It also formed part of the 2nd NZEF in 1939/45 and supplied Companies to the 20th,  23rd, 26th, 30th & 37th Battalions. 

  • In 1948 it amalgamated with Otago Regiment to become the Otago & South Land Regiment which later became the 4th Battalion RNZIR.

  • As part of Wellington Regiment served in Egypt, Gallipoli & France.
  • Amalgamated with 17th (Ruahine) Regt in 1921.
  • Renamed Hawke's Bay Regiment in 1923.
  • 1939 designated 1st battalion Ruahine Regiment and supplied Companies to 19th, 22nd, 25th & 36th Battalions of 2NZEF
  • 1964. Amalgamated with Wellington Regiment to become 7th Battalion Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment (7RNZIR)
Click to enlarge 10th (North Otago Rifles) Regiment  was raised 17 March 1911.
  • Service in Egypt, Gallipoli & France in WW1 as part of Otago Regiment.
  • Joined with 4th (Otago Rifles) Regiment in 1921 to create Otago Regiment
Click to enlarge 11th (Taranaki Rifles) Regiment  was raised 17 March 1911.
  • 11th (Taranaki Rifles) Regiment were formed in March 1911. The unit saw action at Gallipoli, Egypt & France as part of Wellington Regiment. 

  • It formed part of 2 NZEF by supplying companies to 19th, 22nd, 25th & 36th Battalions. 

  • It was amalgamated with the Wellington West Coast Regiment after WW2 to form the Wellington West Coast & Taranaki Regiment which in turn became 5 RNZIR in 1964.

12th (Nelson) Regiment  was raised 17 March 1911.
  • Formed part of Canterbury Regiment and served in Egypt, Gallipoli & France.
  • 13 April 1917 saw the name changed to 12th (Nelson & Marlborough) Regiment.
  • That unit amalgamated with 13th (North Canterbury & Westland) Regiment on 1 June 1923.
  • The new unit was designated Nelson, Marlborough & West Coast Regiment.
  • That unit supplied Companies to 20th, 23rd, 26th, 30th & 37th Battalions 2NZEF in WW2
  • Amalgamated with Canterbury Regiment (1964) to form 2nd Battalion Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment (2RNZIR).
Click to enlarge 13th (North Canterbury) Regiment  was raised 17 March 1911 and was renamed 13th (North Canterbury & Westland) Regiment, 18 January 1912.
  • It saw action at Gallipoli, France and Egypt as part of Canterbury Regiment. It was amalgamated (1 June 1923) with the 12th Nelson & Marlborough Regiment to form the 12 & XIII Nelson Marlborough & West Coast Regiment.

  • WW1 bought service in Egypt, Gallipoli & France as part of Otago Regiment.
  • Joined with 8th (Southland) Regiment in 1921 to form Southland Regiment.

15th (North Auckland) Regiment  was raised 17 March 1911.
  • Served in Egypt, Gallipoli & France in WW1 as part of Auckland Regiment.
  • Provided Companies for the 18th, 21st, 24th & 29th Battalions of 2NZEF.
  • Renamed 15th Northland Regiment on 17 August 1951.
  • 1964. Amalgamated with Auckland Regiment to become 3RNZIR

  • As part of the Auckland Regiment it saw action at Gallipoli, France & Egypt. 
  • Supplied Companies to 18th, 21st, 24th & 29th Battalions of 2 NZEF.
  • Became part of 1st Armoured Regiment in 1950.

17th (Ruahine) Regiment  was raised 27 March 1914.

  • Auckland Regiment service in Egypt, Gallipoli & France.

  • Absorbed into Hawke's Bay Regiment in 1923

  • 1941. Reformed from 2nd Bn Hawke's Bay Regt to become part of the 3rd New Zealand Division in the Pacific.
