Sappers of 1 Troop (of 1 Field Sqn RAE) were attached to 4 RAR/ NZ in direct support, providing us with mini teams and splinter teams, normally working with the rifle companies.

Plant equipment and operators came to us at Courtney Hill especially, but during the "Long March" at Nui Dat, their support became more important in maintaining and moving the Battalion Group. Their overall tasks included the demolition of bunker systems with D Company on Operation OVERLORD and blowing an extensive VC tunnel system in the Chau Pha Valley during Operation HERMIT PARK with the Assault Pioneers.
