C Squadron 1 Armoured Regiment

Webmaster's addition. I have added this photo of a Centurion. It was not in the original book but I believe it is fitting for it to appear here.
Ever resentful of being left out of a fray, the troopers and Centurion tanks of C Squadron supported the Fourth Battalion to their utmost.

The reliability of these aged 52 ton mechanical monsters was creditable and this combined with the skill of the crews enabled them to manoeuvre over seemingly impassable terrain, into positions from which they could effectively assault 274's bunker complexes together with our soldiers during a number of battles in north-eastern Phuoc Tuy Province. Our respect for their support is best summed up in a letter from the Commanding Officer to their Officer Commanding Major Peter Bourke at the time of their phasing out of operations in late August 1971.
